Today 2040 edition

Unemployed, But Investing

Vol. II · No. 1 The awakening of the next owner class The choose-now edition

We’ll all be out of a job soon.

Machines will do the work. Everyone will be unemployed. Then what you own decides your class. Pick a life and live one day of it.

The coin that woke you up.

Most people meet their 2040 self too late. You just met both.

Everything owners hold goes up. The one thing everyone else sells goes down.

My job got automated in 2031.

Unemployed, but investing.

The road to 2040

Fourteen years. One door.

It won’t happen in a day. It happens a little every year — and every year, the door to the owner class gets narrower.

  1. 2026 You are here The door is wide open.

AI starts doing entry-level work. Hiring slows quietly. Most people call it hype.

  2. 2028 Boarding The first jobs vanish.

Support, copywriting, junior code, paralegal. The postings just stop going up.

  3. 2031 Final call Your job goes.

Not a layoff. A “restructure.” The machines learned it from people like you.

  4. 2034 Last seats The allocation starts.

D$ 3,200 a month for everyone, sized to your bills. It pays the landlord, not you.

  5. 2036 Closed Work costs as much as electricity.

A day of human work is worth about a day of power. Wages are over.

  6. 2040 Locked Two classes.

Owners, and everyone else. Both unemployed. Only one is free.

Projected · 2026 to 2040

The owners will keep owning more.

As machines take over the work, income moves from paychecks to what people own. Every year, a bigger share of it goes to the owning side.

The lead

Nobody will fire you. They’ll just stop hiring.

A robot shreds résumés while a long line of job seekers waits outside.

It won’t be one dramatic day. It’ll be the job posting that never goes up, the team that “doesn’t need to backfill,” the entry-level job your little cousin can’t find.

Not because you did anything wrong. Because you did everything right — and the machines learned it from people exactly like you.

Your job was never going to make you free. Owning something will.

Robots made everything cheap. Except homes, land, and the robots.

Economics, simply

Robots don’t get paid. Their owners do.

A robot works 24 hours a day. It never asks for a raise or a day off. Every dollar it earns goes to whoever owns it.

In 2040, that’s the whole economy. Be the one it pays.

Nobody:
Absolutely nobody:
My robots at 3 AM:

They work the night shift. You sleep in.

Things they’ll tell you

  • AI won’t take your job.It already started.
  • Just learn to code.It learned first.
  • New jobs will appear.Mostly for robots.
  • The government will take care of you.With D$ 3,200 a month.
  • You’ll own nothing and be happy.Pick one.

The thesis

Work is becoming electricity.

Robots power a home while the owner of the grid holds the key.

You pay a power bill without ever thinking about who made the power. That’s where work is going: cheap, everywhere, invisible.

When work is a utility, you either pay the bill or own the grid.

The “safe jobs” list, updated daily.

Still one entry. Owner.

2026

It’s 2026. You still have time.

Doomers think it’s over. It isn’t. The machines aren’t finished, the prices aren’t final, and the owner class isn’t closed.

Every month you own a little more, you’re a little less replaceable.

The money trap

Soon, money will be impossible to get.

Not hard. Impossible. The door doesn’t slam shut — it closes one sensible-sounding step at a time.

  1. The paychecks stop.

Machines take the jobs that paid wages. Not all at once — a few more every year. No wage means no money that’s yours to keep.

  2. The check is sized to your bills.

The monthly allocation is indexed to living costs. Rent goes up D$ 63, the allocation goes up D$ 63 — and it’s gone the same night.

  3. Owners buy everything that still earns.

Homes and farmland first. Then the laundromat on your corner, the dentist, the parking lot, the vending machines, the tower your pod is in.

  4. Prices run away from you.

Every purchase pushes prices up for the next buyer. The median home: $420K in 2026, D$ 2.9M in 2040. Your savings don’t move.

  5. The door locks.

Owners got in while wages still existed. After that, the only way into the owner class is to already be in it.

A vault door closes on a line of people holding empty wallets while owners and robots buy up homes and shops.
  • D$ 18.40left each month after the allocation pays itself out
  • 13,134 yearsto save for the median home at that rate
  • 842 yearsto afford one robot that could earn for you
  • 0jobs in your block that pay a wage

That’s why 2026 matters: it’s the last time most people will earn money they can keep.

Follow the money

Your paycheck is moving upstairs.

When a machine takes a job, the paycheck doesn’t vanish. It goes to whoever owns the machine.

Every year, more of the world’s money moves from wages to ownership.

Follow the money. Then own some of it.

They promised a human in the loop.

Get out of the loop. Get into ownership.

A letter from you, age 41

Posted from 2040

Hey. It’s me. You, at forty-one.

I’m writing from the porch. Yes, we have a porch. And a boat. And a car that’s out earning money while I drink my coffee.

Nobody works anymore, me included. But I remember how silly starting felt — a little every month into companies I barely understood, while friends called me paranoid.

Now the machines work, and a piece of what they make comes home. Every single day. Keep going.

— You

The promise

They’ll call it abundance.

Robots make everything cheap. Everyone gets a monthly check. Nobody has to work. Some of that will even be true.

But ask who owns the robots. Ask who decides how big the check is.

The check keeps you alive. Ownership makes you free.

When your robots get paid:

Payday? Every day.

How replaceable are you?

Interactive

Tick what’s true

Nobody’s watching. (Unlike at work.)

The window

The door is open. Not forever.

Right now, anyone can own a piece of the companies building the machines — a little every month.

Every year the door narrows: prices climb, paychecks shrink, and more jobs go.

The best time to start was yesterday. The next best is today.

The AI productivity meeting.

Productivity went up. Guess who got the raise.

What we believe

Manifesto
  1. Machines will do the work. Everyone will be unemployed.
  2. When machines do the work, the money goes to whoever owns them.
  3. That makes two classes: owners, and everyone else.
  4. The monthly check keeps you alive. It won’t make you free.
  5. Owning nothing isn’t freedom. It’s dependence.
  6. The permanent underclass is what happens if you do nothing.
  7. The door to the owner class is open now. It won’t stay open.
  8. Start small. Start now. Starting is the whole trick.
  9. Use the machines. Don’t compete with them.
  10. We’re not doomers. We’re the next owner class.

How to become unemployed, but investing

  1. Keep a gap.Spend less than you earn — while you still earn.
  2. Own pieces of what works. The companies building the machines. A little every month.
  3. Let time do the work.Start early. Time is the one asset you have more of.
  4. Use the machines.Be the one who knows how to put AI to work. Bank the difference.
  5. Build something you own.A product, a small business, an audience.
  6. Find your people. The owner class is a club. Join early.

Workers of the world, own.

The only revolution that pays dividends.

“You’ll own nothing and be happy.”

Pick one. We picked.

You won’t be the only one

Billions will be out of a job. Nobody will care.

About nine billion people will be alive in 2040. When machines do the work, nearly all of them land in the permanent underclass.

Nobody will write their stories. Nobody will march for them. The machines don’t need them, so the system won’t either: fed, housed in pods, forgotten.

Don’t be one of the gray dots. Be the yellow one.

A day in 2040

Same Thursday. Two lives.

Both unemployed. Both 41. One started owning in 2026.

  1. The pod alarm plays an ad. You can’t snooze ads.

You wake up whenever. The house opens the blinds to the ocean.

  2. Breakfast: NutriBlock Original, bar 51 of 60. Tastes like “natural flavor.”

The kitchen robot makes eggs from your own farm.

  3. Human Tasks opens. 48,210 people online for 3 tasks. You get none.

Your robots started their shift at midnight. They don’t take breaks.

  4. Shower slot: 11:10–11:18, Floor 14. Five gallons. Bring your token.

    Swim. Then another swim.

  5. GovAI forgets what you asked. Its 100K context is full of ads.

GalacticAI runs on your own hardware. Unlimited context since 2026.

  6. One credit buys an hour on a virtual beach. Wait time: 2 hours.

The real beach. It’s right there.

  7. Dinner: NutriBlock Savory. The “savory” is new.

Dinner party. The robot pours the wine.

  8. Scroll Y. Watch owners live the life you almost had.

Check the dashboard: D$ 6,897 earned today. You did nothing.

  9. Lights out. Pod lights are controlled centrally.

Stars from the deck. No alarm tomorrow either.

Both are unemployed. Only one is free.

The vows

Say them out loud.

Eight rules. Nobody enforces them. Everybody keeps them.

  1. 01You do not wait to be employed.
  2. 02You do not wait to be employed.
  3. 03You are not your job title. You never were.
  4. 04When a machine takes your job, you own a piece of the machine.
  5. 05You start small. You start now.
  6. 06Ownership is your new job.
  7. 07Nobody gets left in the pod. You bring one friend.
  8. 08If this is your first day unemployed, you start owning today.

Nobody’s watching. You’ll know.

The flag

Proof you saw it coming.

The badge of the future owner class: holding $UBI in 2026.

What we stand for

  • We saw it coming. Automation is taking over entry-level and office work faster than new roles appear. We act on that early, not after it makes the news.
  • We’d rather own than wait. A monthly check covers the basics. Owning a share of the machines, the models and the infrastructure is what creates independence.
  • We start small, and we start now. Ownership compounds. Steady steps taken early matter more than big ones taken late.
  • Nobody gets left behind. This isn’t meant to be a small club. We share what we learn so more people can make the move while the window is open.

$UBI is how we find each other. Hold it, and you’re saying: I saw it coming, and I chose my side.
